What Is An Adaptogen?

Friday, February 18th, 2011

Phoenix Antioxidant Chocolate Call me for more information about adaptogens at (425) 941-9673.

When we are healthy, our body works as a complex machine that self-regulates the processes that are essential to life. Our heart tirelessly powers circulation, our respiratory system hums along exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide, and our nervous system reliably directs our muscular system to allow both voluntary and involuntary movement.

Homeostasis is a state of balance in which all the bodily systems are are working properly. The endocrine system maintains homeostasis by producing and secreting hormones in response to positive and negative feedback.

Xocai Xe Energy drink contains several ingredients that help maintain homeostasis. Guarana, Maca, Yerbe Mate and Cocao are all known as ‘adaptogens’. Adaptogens are herbs that positively affect the entire organism as a whole. They promote general well-being, stamina and vitality. They help us manage stress without getting sick. They help us stay calm and focused so we can function at our best.

When our bodies are operating in a state of homeostatic imbalance, we are at risk for disease. Some conditions caused by a lack of homeostasis are diabetes, hypoglycemia and dehydration.

Dr. Norman Hollenberg is exploring preliminary evidence that suggests a key ingredient in cocoa beans called flavanols may ease high blood pressure and improve circulation. (Aram Boghosian for The Boston Globe)

By Pamela Ferdinand, Globe Correspondent

Remember Woody Allen’s character in the 1973 film “Sleeper,” who wakes up 200 years in the future to find that steak, cream pies, and hot fudge are considered healthy? Nutritionists are not quite there yet, but Dr. Norman Hollenberg is raising hopes that the secret elixir of life may have less to do with wheat germ and more with cocoa.

Just to be clear, Hollenberg, a Harvard Medical School professor and director of Brigham and Women’s Hospital physiologic research division, is not advocating a diet of candy bars and cookies. He instead is exploring preliminary evidence that suggests a key ingredient in natural cocoa beans — antioxidants called “flavanols” — eases high blood pressure and improves circulation.

Flavanols, also present in other foods such as onions, tea, and red wine, might protect us from major illnesses, including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke, and neurodegenerative disease, says Hollenberg. Recent studies, for instance, have shown that flavanols enhance brain blood flow and improve insulin sensitivity by boosting the body’s nitric oxide levels and relaxing blood vessels.

“If this proves out, then this is the most important [finding] in the history of medicine,” he said.  The health benefits of epicatechin, a compound found in cocoa, are so striking that it may rival penicillin and anaesthesia in terms of importance to public health, reports Marina Murphy in Chemistry & Industry, the magazine of the SCI. Norman Hollenberg, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, told C&I that epicatechin is so important that it should be considered a vitamin

Xocai for Heart Health In Phoenix

Xocai MLM Secrets From Phoenix The Kuna Indians of Panama live both on the mainland and on a chain of islands in the Caribbean. The Kuna who live on the islands have retained their traditional culture which includes a diet rich in unprocessed cacao.

Most island-dwelling Kuna drink several cups of cocoa a day. Unlike people in developed nations, as the Kunas age, they don’t experience a rise in blood pressure. The westernized Kuna who live in Panama City do not consume cocoa daily and do not enjoy a lower rate of hypertension. (see Medical News Today)

Harvard Medical School professor of radiology Norman Hollenberg believes the island Kunas’ heart health is due to the antioxidants contained in the unprocessed cacao.

Xocai X Power Squares are made with cacao that is blanched, unfermented, sun-dried, non-roasted and cold-pressed, which means it boasts eight times the levels of epicatechins and catechins, and four times the levels of procyandins than cacao produced with standard processing.

Many people in the Phoenix area eat chocolate daily. Unfortunately, the processing methods used to make Snickers, Kit Kat, Hershey and the like strip the cocoa of its original nutrients. These popular brands of Phoenix chocolate also contain high levels of saturated fat, your heart’s worst enemy.

If you are a Phoenix chocolate addict who is worried about hypertension, you should try delicious Xocai Power Squares. Xocai Power Squares provide a guilt-free chocolate fix.

You can order Xocai Power Squares by calling me (Joel Prince) at (425) 941-9673. I share Xocai weight loss chocolate in Tuscon, AZ, Seattle, WA and Spokane, WA. Antioxidants and Dark Chocolate – Now You Can Enjoy Chocolate Without The Guilt.

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

One of the best pieces of medical news published in the past decade for those of us who love chocolate is that dark chocolate is actually good for you. The antioxidants found in chocolate are in the dark stuff and not the milk or white chocolate so don’t buy cases of Hershey’s Milk Chocolate just yet.

Xocai healthy chocolate combines the wonderful flavors of unprocessed cacao, acai berries, blueberries and concord grapes, resulting in a  high antioxidant content with a remarkable ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) Value.  Our healthy chocolate is perfect for the ‘all-natural’ consumer. Xocai products are formulated with no added colors, no artificial flavors, and no preservatives!

The antioxidants in dark chocolate are potent according to Italy’s National Institute for Food and Nutrition Research. These antioxidants are important in the fight against free radical damage in the body. This means that the dark chocolates are the most beneficial to your health.  Researchers found that dark chocolate would lower blood pressure. In a study using men and women aged 55-64 who had mild high blood pressure, the participants who ate the dark chocolate experienced a 5 point systolic and 2 point diastolic decrease in blood pressure over 2 weeks.

In another study using people age 25-35 researchers found that those who ate dark chocolate had the most total antioxidants in their blood one hour after eating as compared to those who ate white chocolate or milk chocolate. They also had the higher levels of epitcatechin, which is a health compound found in chocolate. Chocolate also contains phenols, which have been highly touted as a benefit of red wine. Another positive effect of the phenols found in dark chocolate is the protection against artherosclerosis. Phenols are believed to prevent substances in the blood from oxidizing and clogging the arteries. The substances are low density lipoproteins (LDL) that creates subtle damage which eventually forms plaque that leads to artherosclerosis.

Until these past studies it was thought that tea was the only compound that contains the largest amount of these antioxidants. These antioxidants are believed to help protect the body against heart disease and cancer.

Interestingly, chocolate hasn’t been found to cause cavities or tooth decay. In fact, it has been found to help decrease the number of bacteria in the mouth and stop decay. Scientists believe that the antibacterial agents in cocoa will offset the sugar levels.  Chocolate has also not been found to cause an issue with acne. In fact, some more recent research has shown that eating chocolate or not eating doesn’t produce any changes in acne skin conditions.

Research is ongoing to determine the actual effectiveness of absorbing antioxidants from dark chocolate in the treatment and prevention of heart disease and cancer. Some of this research is being done in the laboratory, other on animals and still others on human subjects.

Until research reaches a final conclusion researchers have not found any negative effects of eating dark chocolate, except for the issues with increasing caloric intake and the risk of obesity. Using smart decisions you can easily fit a couple of squares of chocolate into your diet and take advantage of both the great taste and potential health benefits.
